'Newcrest Children's Home'. Tell me again why we're here. "I don't know exactly. The woman on the phone just said that she wanted to set an appointment for two o' clock." An appointment at a children's home? "Maybe it's a work thing? Like a charity connection? I mean, I don't know what else it could be." Maybe you have a secret love child. "Haha- very funny." "Aren't you a little young to be running the front desk?" "Aren't you a little too old for your FACE?" OOOH BURN. Take that Austin. "Thank you Riley. I'll take it from here- I do belive you have homework to complete." "Awwwww maaaaan." "Hello there! You must be Mr.Viridi, it that correct?" "Um, yeah. Austin is fine- are you Sheena?" "Oh no, no, no. That's my assistant- My name is Candice Mathers. I own the Newcrest Children's Home, it's very nice to meet you!" "You as well, if I may ask- why did you want to meet with me?" "In my profession, I often find it best to show than to tell. If you will just follow me to the dayroom." "Uh. Okay." "The Newcrest Children's Home was founded over forty years ago my my grandmother Candy Mathers-When young women or couples seek out our help- we never turn away a soul in need- nor do we judge. We have proudly connected children from all over the world to their 'forever' families, or failing that- we have provided a safe, friendly and warm environment for any child that needs it. Our facility is state of the art, and we pride ourselves on raising well educated and well adjusted young men and women." That sounds rehearsed. "That sounds...wonderful. You clearly care a lot about the children who come into your care. But Ms. Mathers, I still don't see what any of this has to do with me?" "Well, Mr. Viridi- are you familiar with a young woman named Mckenzie Glenn?" "What?! I....I mean I met her once.....for like a day.....I mean- Uh. Yeah. Yeah, I've met her." "About a month ago, Ms. Glenn brought two young children here to the Newcrest Home, under 'father' she has listed you in her intake paperwork." "WHAT?!?" SAY WHAT NOW?!? "Yes. That is usually the first reaction. It's completely understandable that you would be slightly taken aback." "SLIGHTLY?! Slightly taken aback?!? Try about to drop dead! Try......There's NO way....try.....I....I can't. WHAT?" "Are you done?" ".......Yeah. I guess so." "Wonderful!" Damn she's cheery. It's almost infectious. "You have to understand why I would be a least a little skeptical?" "Of course I do, but I want to assure you Mr. Viridi, we would not invite anyone here if we were not positive of a child's parentage. We have partnerships with all the local hospitals and background databases. We have run paternity tests of both the twins against records provided from Magnolia Promenade Medical Center. You are the biological father of the twins." This is why you should ALWAYS read the fine print. "Twins? As in two babies?" WHOA. I hate to brake it to you- but they look EXACTLY like you. "This can not be happening." "Look Mr. Viridi, I did not bring you here to just unload all of this on you. You do have a choice in the matter." "I.....I do?" "Of course you do. Biologically, you are their father. But this is a huge life choice- more than likely the biggest you will ever make. It's not something to be considered lightly. If you decide to take them- and be a parent- then we will support you every step of the way. If you decide not to take them- and terminate your parental rights- then we will support you every step of the way. The bottom line is the chilren and seeing that they are raised in a happy and healthy environment.Whether or not that is with you or with someone else- that is your decision to make." "Okay. So what do I do now?" "Well- would you like to meet them?" "I don't know- I mean, what if they get.....attatched?" "Mr. Viridi- they're toddlers. Honestly, unless you go in there dressed as the Flower Bunny himself- they won't get too attatched to you. I promise." She does have a point. Wow. I've never seen someone look so uncomfortable while surrounded around that much adorable. "Why hello there Mr. Viridi, how was your visit?" "Ummm....good. I guess. I mean....they're really great kids." "They are. Ever since they arrived they have been a delight. Miranda is so inquisitive- quite the little explorer. And Mattias- Ah! I've never seen such a silly personality! He's already a comedian." ".......Yeah." "Come over here Mr. Viridi, have a seat." "I know all of this is a huge shock- and naturally it will be an even larger adjustment- no matter what you choose. But keep in mind- whatever you choose to do- we will support you." "UGH. You keep saying that- but what does it even mean?!" "I know I sound like a broken record, but in my line of work- it seems that the truth is the best thing I can give you." "I just don't know what to do." "And I don't expect you to know right now. Go home- think on it. The twins aren't going anywhere. They can't be adopted until you sign the paperwork. They're happy here and we will take care of them- so don't feel rushed." "How do you know if you're ready to be a parent?" "Hahahaha- I don't think any parent- anywhere in the world KNOWS when they're ready. And I can promise you Mr.Viridi, even those who have read every book- are never really prepared. Ultimatley it just comes down to love. If you have room in your life to love and to care for two new little people and raise them to adulthood." "Well that's comforting. I think." Austin. You can't hide in the roof telescope forever. "Watch me." Auuuuustiiiiiin. You need to come out. We need to talk about this. "Leave me alone. I'm in my quiet place." You can't see me. But I'm rolling my eyes. On the bright side- at least you're making progress in ONE area of your life. It seems that despite some life-altering decisions- you're still managing to only be friends with ghosts. Uh-oh. Hey Austin? "I told you. I'm not coming out." Austin- it's not me. It's Arlo. He's not looking so hot. "I'll be right out." Well it's good to know you have some priorities. "There you go buddy- aren't you feeling better? That's my furry buddy!" Awwww. That's actually kind of sweet. You know Austin, I know this whole 'suddenly- twins!' thing has really thrown you for a loop. But if you want my honest opinion- "I don't." Well, I'm going to give it anyway. As your resident legacy judge/ omnipresent voice- I'm obligated to choose the side that means more generations to come. However- I would never make you do anything you don't want to do. If you don't want to be a dad right now- then don't. There's always time. And Candice seems cool- I'm sure she'll find the twins a great home........ "BUT. I know there's a BUT." BUT- I think you're really underestimating yourself. As someone who was there from the beginning- I can tell you- neither your mother or your grandmother had ANY idea what they were doing, and they're kids turned out pretty great." "Yeah. I guess they did." "Okay Arlo- one time around the track, and then we're going home." "Hmmmmmm. Not bad Mr. Viridi, not bad at all." "So you like it? That's a load off- I was really worried, I mean- with my parents and my sister gone......I wasn't really sure what I was doing." "It's wonderful. I'm sure your children are going to be very happy here." "Okay my lovlies- gather round. Now promise me you'll be very good!" "Candy! Play!" "Oh my darlings- I will miss you!" "Okay then Mr. Viridi- take care of my darlings. And you take care as well. Remember what I said- just take it one day at a time. And above all- be happy." "I will Ms.Mathers- thank you. For everything." Don't worry dude- you're not alone. You have me! And Arlo! He's already making quite the good impression. "Puppy! Arlo!" *CRASH* Aaaaaand- we're off to a great start. "Dolly! Broken! FIX IT! FIXFIXFIX!!!" "Ummmmm- I can call someone about it. How about a nap?" "NO. NO NAP. NO WANT NAP." Uh-oh. Look like someone inherited your tantrum face. "Daddy." Awwwww. That's the part that's the best. Dance magic Dance. See- I told you? You'll be fine. Authors Note: YAY! I love this chapter- it is byfar my favorite so far! When I began the legacy, I wasn't trying to create a 'story', just take some funny screenshots and add some wacky comments. And don't get me wrong- that's still what I'm doing. However- I really like sprinkling in some 'story elements' here and there. Everything is still adhering to the legacy rules- random traits, no interference and the like. I built the 'Newcrest Children's Home' specifically for storytelling in this chapter. It's super cute- if you want to check it out, it's listed under the 'building' tab under 'other projects'. I have also listed it on the gallery. My username is bookish_me (I think. I'll double check that). I hope you liked this chapter- I'm really excited about how things are unfolding!
