Wooo! Here we are! Generation 4! To be honest, I've tried many, many, MANY legacy challenges over the years on various different sims platforms (just for funsies) and for one reason or another I always end up quitting by gen 3. So this is a huge deal for me- and not just because it's my first written story. :) Now I know the poll results were totally given away already- by the 'coming soon' title, and the landing page, and a bunch of other things I did. But what the hell- Our Generation 4 Heir is..............MIRANDA RENEE VIRIDI! *confetti* NOTE: Just FYI, I had to go back to the last chapter of Gen 3 and ret-con a couple of things to make my story going forward make sense. You can go back and look if you want, but the TLDR is: -->Original Ending: At the end of Gen 3, Mira peeked at the sealed records of the Newcrest Children's Home computer and got the name and last known address of their AWOL mom. In the original post- they got her real name which is Maritza De Luna and her full address. While working on the Selvadora chapter (coming soon) and the Maritza interlude I realized that I didn't want them to have her 'real' name yet- plus I forgot that they had never had any reason to think her name was anything other than Mckenzie Glenn so having no reaction to it being different made no sense. -->In the fixed verion: Mira still peeked at the computer, but the name she got was Mckenzie Glenn instead of Maritza de Luna. And instead of a full address, all she knows at this point is that her mom is from Selvadorada. Okay- I hope that makes sense. If it doesn't then just drop me a comment and I can clear everything up. As I have said before- I am not a writer by any stretch of the imagination lol. Enough of my rambling- here's the chapter- enjoy! :) "Alright- here we are." "Mira, are you sure this the right address?" "Yeah- this is what the guide gave me- 104 Campo del Verde. " "You know, it's not too late for an Air BNB." "Oh don't be such a baby- it's about experiencing the culture." "Hmmmmm. And here I was thinking this was about some soul-searching Maury Povitch/23&Me spinoff." "Very funny. Alright, here goes nothing." *Knock. Knock. Knock.* "Hello? May I help you Miss?" "Hi! I mean- Hola! My name is Miranda. Miranda Viridi, my brother and I met a guide in the marketplace today- he said that we could come by and he'd help us find someone. Do you mind if we come in?" Ten Months Earlier.....Ahhhh. Breathe it in. Another new generation, another new bedroom redesign! I bet it feels great to be out of the nursery- huh Mira? Mira? Oh yeah. She's asleep. Well that's enough peeping for now. Let's see what my other Viridi peeps are up to. Austin is still old. And Noodle appears to have become some sort of weiner dog- retreiver creature. "Must you be so unkind- Noodle is still the sweetest, cutest puppy in the world- aren't you? Aren't you?" Yeah. That's enough of that. I'm getting Summer Viridi flashbacks. "Good Morning Beautiful." "Awwww- good morning to you too my love." D'awww. These two are still adorable. Looks like they are deep into those wedding plans. They certainly waste no time. "So- what are your thoughts on DOVES?" "I don't know- are they what people normally do at weddings?" "I think so. I have yet to confirm it. But either way- I'm thinking white doves." "I didn't think they came in other colors." At last- our heiress graces us with her presence. "So- one week until the wedding- feeling nervous?" "Not at all- I've basically been planning this since I was nine. What about you Mira- weren't you seeing Darian- everyone's favorite local criminal?" "Ugh. Leah- I told you not to call him that. And no. It's not even like that with me and Darian. We hung out like twice." "Yeah- but you like him." "Please. I mean- he's cute. But he's just so......." "Dangerous?" "No. Distant. We hung out. We talked. We texted. But it's like he's afraid to talk about anything deeper than the weather." "You know, some women would call that mysterious." "Yah, well I call it a big red flag. And I've had enough of people who disappear in and out of my life. A girl can only take but so much." "I guess so. I'm so lucky to have Matty." "What you see in my dorky twin, I'll never know. Besides, I start my new job tomorrow. I've litteraly got a million other things to think about." "Wow." Wow is right. Look at this place. It's like a nerds playground. "It's amazing. This is the epitome of everything I've been working for." It is very science-y. And the labcoat is pretty snazzy. How does it feel Dr.Viridi? "Oh come on- I'm not a doctor." You might as well be- Miss Doctorate in Physics Miranda Viridi. I'm aloud to be proud of my family. Just let me have this. "Enough histerics. I'm going to start work before you take one of those pinterest first day of school photos." Don't tempt me. I have photoshop. And I'm not afraid to use it. "Hi- I'm Miranda Viridi, I'm here for my first day." "I can't tell you how excited I am to be here. I've read all the research from this lab I can't wait to get started!" "Hmmmm.....I'm not seeing your background clearance. Oh wait- here it is. Yeah- so the thing is- it's collection day. We normally have the rookies on sample duty, here's a clipboard and a bucket. Have fun." "Ummm. Okay. S-sounds good. Samples. I'm on it." Well. We're off to an auspcious start I guess. "It's okay. I mean- it's rookie duty. I'm new. Just because I'm smart doesn't mean I'm not at the bottom of the pyramid." I know this is just my mama-bear instincts- but......My Miranda is the bottom of NO ONES pyramid. "Oh calm down. We've got rocks to mine." "But first I'm going to fix this coffee maker. No way I'm working nine hours in the field without a decent morning blend." Well at least you have your priorities. Wow. Nine hours in the field directly into rocket science in the rain. That's dedication if I've ever seen it. "Well I've got to get my tinkering fix somewhere." I'd hardly call a fully functional rocket ship in your backyard 'tinkering'. "Almost functioning. I've still got to calibrate the boosters." "Hey Mira! You're getting soaked! Why don't you come inside?" "I will. I will. I just want to finish this last thing....." "Hon, you can't stay out here all night. I mean all you've done for weeks is research and rocket building. Don't you want to have some fun? Or at least not die of pnuemonia?" "Leah, I told you- rockets and research IS fun for me. And I've already gotten my flu shot. So that puts that to bed." "Hardly. You are going to my bachelorette party tomorrow right?" "Uhhhhhh......" "MIRA. You promised." "I think promise is a strong word..." I was there. You promised. "Damn." "You're going. End of story. Besides- don't be so trepidacious about it- Saya's planning it and she promised to keep it low key." Yeah. Low-key. That's what I would call this. "WOOOOOOOO! I'M GETTING MARRIED TOMORROW!!!! "So much for a quiet evening." "Hey! Genius girl- what are you doing here? I'd hardly call The Narwal Inn your kind of place." "Darian. Of course. That's exactly what this evening was missing." "No need for hostility. How's about I buy you a drink?" "I'm not being hostile. I just don't like men who ghost me and never answer my calls." "Oh yeah. That. Well if it makes you feel any better- I was under the weather for a while." "Yeah sure." "Well, believe me or not. I still think you're the prettist girl in this place." "How is it that I know you're just feeding me a line- but somehow it works." "It's a gift." "Hahahaha-" "I know it sounds like a line- but I really do like making you smile." "It definitley sounds like a line. But thanks. Besides- you're kind of the only person who does make me smile these days. So.....are you going to tell me what you were really up when you were not calling me back?" "I told you- I was sick." "Forget I asked." "Come on- don't leave. Okay fine. I wasn't sick. I had.....a work thing. I was out of town for a while and I couldn't call you. But I wanted to. If that means anything." "Hrmph. Not a lot of detail, but I'll take it. So are you going to keep sitting here or buy me that drink?" Geex. 4am. How are you functioning right now? "By Saya party standards- 4am is nothing." "So....Darian." "So....Miranda." "Look I know you're not much of a sharer. And maybe that's just something I have to get used to. I know I'm not the most open person in the world. So I guess I can't really judge. But....I missed you or whatever." "Awww- you're makin' me blush." "I'm being serious." "I know. I missed you too you know. You call me out on my crap. I need that sometimes." "So I was thinking- if you're not busy with 'work stuff' maybe you'd like to be my plus one to my brother's wedding. You know- with me. In public. In a date or whatever." "I think that sounds like the best line I've heard." "Alright then. It's a date." "I guess you gotta get her home in one piece- so this wedding can actually happen." "Nononononoo-I said white doves......." "Yeah. She's a lightweight. But she's my sister, so.....whatever." "Bye Genius Girl." So are we just not going to talk about you asking out some mysterious guy with model ready hair swoops? "Uh. Yeah. That was my plan." And you told Leah that you haven't been seeing him. That is NOT what that conversation sounded like. Miranda Renee is there something you need to tell me? "Not really. Look- I'm working. I'm finally out of the field- just let me concentrate." Fine. But I am not done bugging you about this. "Would you like the model printed clockwise or counter clockwise?" "Hmmmm- I'm thinking clockwise. Why reinvent the wheel?" "Hey Linda- Mark said you needed some help with something?" "Oh hey- yeah! So I've been analyzing these blood samples from Sacred Spleen Memorial- there's this weird flu going around- leaves people, women primarily, feeling tired and experiencing memory loss." "So have you found anything unusual?" "Sort of- I isolated a particle that was in the blood stream that was not present in their previous blood samples prior to contracting the illness. I was hoping you could give these samples a second look?" "Absolutley." "Yay! I feel like I'm really onto something here. I don't know what exactly to call this thing, but if it turns out to be something new I could get a new research grant!" Peas in a pod. At least your making friends. "Leah Jeager, from the day I walked into that playroom and saw you- I knew in that momment I had found the girl I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I can't believe this day is finally here. It feels like the culmination of everything I've been waiting for my whole life. But I know that things are just getting started. I love you." "Matthias Viridi- you are goofy and sweet and everything I've ever wanted. You're more than my husband- you're my best friend. My family. My world. I know that the life we are going to build together will be more beautiful than anything I could ever imagine. I love you." Have I mentioned that I love weddings? Because I do. I'm not crying. You're crying. "Well. You're late but at least you're here. As a scientist, I have to acknowledge progress in any form." "Sorry. I really tried to be here, but I had a-" "Work thing?" "Yeah. Sorry." "Are you ever going to tell me what exactly you do for a living?" "I would, but....why ruin a good thing." "Why hello there! Miranda!" "Oh. Hey dad. I thought you were out with Matthias and Leah." "I was, but an old man needs a chair. Who's young man?" "......This....is....Darian. He's my.......friend." "Hello Mr.Viridi- it's an honor." "Haven't I seen you around?" "Umm, nope. I don't think so." "Weren't you in the paper- the crime beat I believe a few years back?" Wow. Way to cut to the chase Austin. "DAD. Must you?!" "It's okay Miranda- Uh Yeah, Sir. That probably was me. I wasn't the smartest kid in Newcrest. The good news is, your lovely daughter is a very good influence." "Hrmph. I hope it stays that way. Miranda- Make good choices." "DAD. SHOO." "I'm sorry about that. He's embarassing, but he means well." "I think it's cool- he cares about you. I wish my old man had been like that- maybe I wouldn't have been in that crime beat after all." "I wish I could stay longer, but I have to get back to work. It's a contract thing. If I let it fall through my boss will have my head." "Corner office deal?" "Something like that. For now- I want you to have this and tomorrow I would like to take you on a proper date. In a real place- in public. On time." "I think I'd like that. Assuming you show up." "Wouldn't miss it for the world Genius Girl." "At last- Mr.Nixon. I was beginning to think you'd forgotten about me." "Forget you? Impossible. I do have some sense of self-preservation." "HA. I like your sense of humor- I knew there was a reason I keep you around. I trust you've brought what I ask for?" "Ummm....Yeah, About that. I need a little more time- things around town have been super busy." "That's disappointing Mr.Nixon. You know I don't like to be disappointed. Have a seat. We need to have a little chat." "I gave you one job. Only one. You are to bring me the sustanance that I need. The coven is not what it used to be. My power is draining. And sadly, the meals in today's world aren't as malleable as they were 100 years ago. You are my man on the outside. I've trusted you. And you have once again-broken that trust." "Look Mr. Strauss, I'm doing the best I can. What do you want from me- I have a life." "What do I want?" "I want you to remember your job. I want you to remember who GAVE you that life. What you owe me. You BELONG to me Darian. You'd be wise not to forget that." "Per mandatum meum,Se revelare verum tuae." "Now tell me- who do you serve?" "You. Master. I serve you." Dun. Dun. Dun.
That's where I leave you for now. I hope that didn't come across too cheesy! :) I've been dying to use the vampire stuff. I bought it forever ago and never had a reason to do it. So for the rest of this generation I want to slowly start bringing together the plotlines- Darian/Mira's relationship, Darians secret 'work stuff', the Selvadorada story, and more! It's going to be an awesome ride!
